Fitness Report: January 2013
I am going to change some things up this year for working out.
The past two years I’ve focused most of my efforts on racking up distance. This year I want to work on getting my 5K time down to under 22 minutes. To do that I need to do more speed work and I feel that I need to cut my overall mileage goal down to 400 instead of 500 miles. And to make up the lost running distance I plan to add 500 miles of cycling (still gotta burn calories).
Running took its toll on me this past summer when I had to stop for almost two months due to a hip issue. Running is fairly hard on a 40+ year old guy. Cycling is a great alternative to running; it is low impact and it’ll save some fair wear and tear on my knees and hips.
I only ran this month. January is not the time to create your own 15 mph additional wind chill on a bicycle. I’ll start biking in March.
January Running Totals:
Time: 8 hours, 29 min, 16 sec
Average Speed: 7.0 mph
Calories Burned: 7,880
