Using experience I gained while deployed to Iraq  in 2008, I pulled out a coil of stainless steel safety wire and pliers and made quick work of the repair.

You see, the Army has this fear of losing equipment and with good reason. Many Commands have a requirement to secure all weapons attachments unto weapons. CCO’s (M68 red dots), ACOG’s, PEQ-2′s, PAQ-4′s and whatever else had to tied onto the weapon to prevent it falling off and becoming lost. I’ve never seen it happen, but it must have once or we wouldn’t have had to do it. Most units used “550 cord”, not us, we used safety wire. It has a more “professional” appearance. Needless to say, as an overly analytical Unit Supply Sergeant, I have lots of experience using safety wire and pliers.
